Route 66 Elementary

This new school is located immediately south of the old Route 66 near Sedillio Hill. It is a part of the Moriarty School District. The “Mother Road” provides the backdrop and inspiration for this Elementary School. The concept and construction was initiated in 1996. It is the result of a dynamic theme and very enjoyable working relationship between the students, faculty, parents, school board and architects. This was one of those unique opportunities where FUN was the vehicle for Success. It is a highly functional, flexible and efficient floor plan with a central “hub” that contains shared spaces such as; the library, full service cafeteria and gym. Radiating out form that hub like “spokes of a wheel” are the three phased classroom wings. The building sits in the middle of a rectangular site. Consistent with its theme, the parking lot arcs along the front façade reminiscent of the old drive-in theaters that you would see along Route 66.
