LANL Security Systems Support Facility
The S-3 Security Systems Support Facility is a 21,000 s.f. office building, located in Technical Area 3 at Los Alamos National Laboratory. It is a two story building, with a 1,218 s.f. penthouse, containing the mechanical systems equipment. Building construction consists of structural steel columns and beams, with an exterior insulation finish system over metal framing.
Sustainable design features include the use of partially recycled steel and recycled aluminum, and the steel super structure is designed to maximize efficiency and minimize the use of material. The building mechanical system is designed to be energy efficient, and features entry vestibules that act as energy saving air locks. The exterior finish system employs a highly insulated substructure of rigid insulation to minimize heat gain and energy loss.
