UNM: Optoelectronics Building

The Optoelectronic Materials Center was designed by SMPC Architects, in association with CRSS Architects of Texas (now HOK), to house the Center for High Technology Materials (CHTM) which had been located on the main campus. The primary purpose of the new facility was to provide state-of-the-art cleanroom and research laboratories for the fabrication and study of electronic devices and laser-material interactions while serving as the focal point and standard setter for the research park. The flexibility of the research space was extremely critical in order to accommodate different research programs and rapidly changing research methodologies. The 92,000 s.f. facility includes 12,555 s.f. dedicated to clean rooms, 20,542 s.f. for administration, 16,919 s.f. for teaching and lecture facilities, and 41,984 s.f. of research laboratories and support space.
