We are pleased to share the promotions of three talented team members. Stefan Johnson is being elevated to Senior Associate, and Devon Adams and Maggie Kerkmans have been promoted to Associates. Each has made valuable contributions to our projects and firm culture, and we are excited to witness their continued growth.
We asked them to share some insights on their career journeys and what they envision for the future:
Stefan Johnson, Senior Associate: Stefan believes that teamwork is the cornerstone of exceptional design and looks forward to fostering even greater collaboration in his new role. “I’ve learned that creating great architecture requires a well-coordinated team,” he shares. “I’m committed to becoming an effective leader who inspires and cultivates an environment where clients and colleagues can collaborate to produce thoughtful, high-quality designs.” His advice for others navigating career transitions? “Trust the process and embrace the challenges that come with change. Not every transition will be smooth, but each one is an opportunity to learn and grow.”
Devon Adams, Associate: Devon’s growth at SMPC has been shaped by hands-on experience, including a managerial role during his internship. “Opportunity, coupled with guidance from our leadership team, has challenged me to step outside my comfort zone and sharpen my project management skills,” Devon explains. “My experiences have taught me the value of accountability and growth through hard work.” Looking ahead, Devon is focused on expanding his leadership skills. “My goal is to deepen my expertise, take on greater project responsibilities, and advance toward licensure. I’m committed to strengthening my leadership capabilities to manage successful projects and mentor future team members.”
Maggie Kerkmans, Associate: For Maggie, mentorship has been instrumental in her professional development. “A driving force in my growth has been the opportunity to listen to designers, clients, and contractors, absorbing the lessons and unique perspectives each person offers,” she says. She remains committed to continuous learning. “I plan on pursuing licensure and continuing to learn from experience—developing my own voice as a designer while remaining open to new ideas and ways of working.”
