Bavarian Chalets

Taos Ski Valley, New Mexico

Situated at 10,200 feet, the Bavarian Chalets in the Taos Ski Valley borders alpine wetlands and National Forest hiking trails. SMPC developed a master plan and gained zoning approvals to guide future phases of design and construction on this resort property. The plan includes the provision of an expanded lodge/condo hotel providing additional expansion to 42 rooms, a spa and fitness center, a conference facility for groups of 20 to 50, and three duplex chalets.

SMPC designed the chalets in collaboration with interior design firm Champalimaud of New York, inspired by alpine and mining structures. The chalets were built in two phases. Each chalet houses two townhomes on three floors totaling 1,898 s.f. each. The high-end units combine conventional framing with a heavy timber roof-structure to withstand 300 p.s.f. snow loads. Local craftsmen provided details displayed throughout the chalets.
